Motorola Razr 2025: Price, specs, models, and everything you need to know

Motorola's latest lineup of fashionable flip phones is finally here, and it's bigger than ever. The company revealed the Motorola Razr 2025, Razr Plus 2025, and Razr Ultra 2025 at a New York City launch event on April 24, 2025, with retail availability beginning for these three new foldables in mid-May. It's the first time Motorola is releasing three different foldable models, with the new Razr Ultra 2025 serving as the premium offering.

Motorola's Razr Ultra 2025 is nothing short of a breakthrough for clamshell foldables. It is the first flip phone to pack Qualcomm's powerhouse Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It has other perks, too, like a battery that lasts up to 36 hours on a single charge and Gorilla Glass Ceramic for durability. At a starting cost of $1,299, the Razr Ultra 2025 is a premium foldable at a premium price.

Meanwhile, there's the base-model Razr 2025, which packs a bigger battery and a new MediaTek chip at the same $699 price point. Oddly enough, the mid-tier Razr Plus 2025 seems to have the least number of upgrades compared to the 2024 version. Motorola Razr 2025: Price & availability

Motorola will sell the Razr Ultra 2025, Razr Plus 2025, and Razr 2025 starting May 15. Pre-orders will open on May 7 at Best Buy, Amazon, and Motorola's online store. The Ultra model retails for $1,300, the Plus model retails for $1,000, and the base model retails for $700.

Global availability for the Motorola Razr 2025 lineup is currently unclear. We know the Motorola Razr Ultra will be sold in Canada starting June 3, with pre-orders beginning May 7. The Motorola Razr will be sold in Canada starting May 15, with pre-orders opening May 7. However, Canadian pricing for each model has not been announced.

At the moment, Motorola has not announced any plans to sell the Razr Plus in Canada.

Motorola Razr 2025: Design & display

All three Razr 2025 models have the same general form factor, with only minute differences in their dimensions. When closed, the Razr Ultra 2025 measures 73.99 x 88.12 x 15.69mm, the Razr Plus 2025 measures 73.99 x 88.09 x 15.32mm, and the Razr 2025 measures 73.99 x 88.08 x 15.85mm. The phones' weights are similar, too, with the Razr Ultra being the heaviest of the bunch at 199 grams.

This year, Motorola added IP48 certification for dust and water resistance. For the first time, all three variants will have basic dust resistance. The flip phones still have the same level of water resistance, as they'll survive up to 30 minutes submerged in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater. For the Razr Ultra 2025, the front cover screen uses Gorilla Glass Ceramic.

Otherwise, the key design differences between the three Razr models concern their displays.

The base model Razr 2025 has the smallest cover screen, measuring 3.6 inches. The main, folding display is a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen supporting 120Hz refresh rates.

The next step up is the Razr Plus 2025, which features a larger 4-inch pOLED cover screen. It's largely the same design as last year, with a 6.9-inch pOLED folding display on the inside capable of 165Hz refresh rates.

The final upgrade tier is the Razr Ultra 2025, which is separated from the rest by its 7-inch pOLED folding display. This sports what Motorola calls a "Super HD" display with 4,500 nits of peak brightness. The cover screen is a 4-inch pOLED panel mostly the same as the one you'll find on the Razr Plus 2025, with a key difference being the Ultra model's 3,000-nit peak brightness rating.

Getting to basics, all three models are clamshell foldables, which means they're more compact than a traditional smartphone when closed. This year, the models have a titanium-reinforced hinge that adds to their durability. They're available in various colors and finish options, including materials that mimic wood, leather, and Alcantara. Many of this year's shades are official Pantone colors.

Motorola Razr 2025: Specs & cameras

The Razr Ultra 2025 opts for the real deal with the fully-fledged Snapdragon 8 Elite, which marks Motorola's first time bringing a current top-of-the-line chipset to the Razr. It sports all eight cores, which bodes well for performance, efficiency, and on-device AI processing. The 3nm chip has a dedicated AI engine for powering certain Moto AI features. It comes with 16GB of memory and is available in either 512GB or 1TB storage configurations.

The Razr Plus 2025 and Razr 2025 both have lower-end chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek, respectively. The former is using the same Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 mobile platform as its predecessor, while the latter gets the upgrade to the newer MediaTek Dimensity 7400X chip. Motorola says the Dimensity 7400X chip in the Razr 2025 performs up to 15% better than the Razr 2024 for AI tasks.

The Razr Plus 2025 has 12GB of memory, while the Razr 2025 only has 8GB of RAM, which is slower than the Plus and Ultra models. The Razr 2025's storage is slower, too, as it's UFS 2.2 rather than UFS 4.0.

The Razr Ultra 2025 has a 4,700mAh battery capacity, which is quite a boost compared to the last-generation model. It charges at a top speed of 68W with a cable and can also handle up to 30W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging. Motorola says this model can last up to 36 hours on a single charge.

The Razr 2025 also gets a capacity boost. Now powered by a 4,500mAh battery, it charges at 30W wired and 15W wirelessly. Oddly enough, the Razr Plus 2025 is the only model not to get a capacity boost. It still has a 4,000mAh capacity and charges at 45W wired and 15W wirelessly.

As far as cameras are concerned, Motorola touts that the Razr Ultra 2025 is the first flip-style foldable to have triple 50MP sensors, but that doesn't tell the whole story. It's still a dual-camera system on the rear, with wide and ultrawide sensors. The most significant upgrade is a 50MP selfie camera.

To get a zoom sensor, you'll have to go with the Motorola Razr Plus 2025, which still has a 50MP telephoto for 2x optical zoom. It also offers a 50MP primary camera, but a 32MP selfie camera. The base-model Razr has a 50MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultrawide, and a 32MP selfie camera.

Motorola Razr 2025: Software & AI

All three Motorola Razr 2025 variants ship with Moto's Android 15 skin, called Hello UI. Given Motorola's propensity to delay its updates, these phones may not get Android 16 until later in the year. That said, last year's Razr Plus 2024 recently received the Android 15 update, two months earlier than its predecessor received Android 14 (and a month or so after the Razr Plus 2023 received Android 15).

Speaking of updates, Motorola's update promise is sticking around, too. It currently includes three OS upgrades and four years of software updates. As for the software itself, Android 15 on Motorola's Hello UX isn't very different from the Android 14 version, as we noticed in our hands-on time with the Moto G 2025, and since the update arrived on the Razr Plus 2023.

Motorola retains much of the same UI elements as the Razr Plus 2024, including the additional features it possesses for its higher-end models, like Magic Canvas. This time around, the company is doubling down on Moto AI, which is working in tandem with Gemini.

Moto AI is featured heavily on the phones, along with access to Google AI features like Gemini. Motorola's AI suite is currently offering notification summaries, recording transcripts, the ability to recall information, and more. It gains three more "advanced" features on the Motorola Razr 2025 series: Catch Me Up, Pay Attention, and Remember This. There are also new camera features, like Group Shot, which makes sure no one is blinking in a group photo.

Look and Talk is an interesting new feature exclusive to the Razr Ultra. This works while the phone is in tent position and evokes Moto AI when the user looks at it. Without speaking a wake word, a user can simply begin talking to the phone.

Motorola also showed off a new Image Studio, where users can perform various image-generating tasks. This includes Magic Canvas and newer features like Sketch to Image.

But the crux of Motorola's upgraded Moto AI lies in its various partnerships. The company is integrating four different AI models into Moto AI, which will utilize whichever is best for the task. For example, Catch Me Up will use Meta's Llama to help summarize communications from apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Users can ask to evoke Microsoft Copilot for a query or utilize Perplexity to help provide contextual suggestions on what users should do next on their phones.
